The Diglis Locks, in Worcester, opened on 9 October 1844 and played a focal part in the city's burgeoning marine trade.

The Severn Navigation Act of 1842 led to the opening of Lincomb Weir in 1843, with the Lock opened on 9th October 142, with estimated costs of £140,000
